The Estadio Anoeta ( full name: Estadio Municipal de Anoeta ) is a football stadium with track and field facility in the Spanish city of San Sebastián. It is mostly used for football and is the home stadium of the Spanish side Real Sociedad. The stadium can accommodate 32,076 spectators.

History

The Estadio Anoeta in San Sebastián, a city in the north of Spain in the Basque Country, was in 1990 - built in 1993. It is the successor of the stadium Estadio de Atotxa, which took 17,000 people and previously for 75 years was the home of Real Sociedad. 1993, it was pulled down and replaced by the new, larger stadium, whose capacity was set at 32,000 spectators. For the first game in the new stadium, the future users, Real Sociedad, and the Spanish giants Real Madrid met for a friendly match. Since that day, August 13, 1993 Real Sociedad Estadio Anoeta uses as the venue for their home games. First event in the stadium were the Athletics Junior Championships, which began on 29 July 1993. The club was up twice today Spanish masters, but still in the old stadium, and twice Cup winners in the country. In addition, in 1982 succeeded in winning the Spanish Supercup. Currently plays Sociedad in La Liga after being in the season (2009 /10) had managed to promotion back to the top division in Spanish football.

Other Terms

The Estadio Anoeta is not only used for football matches. Here also rugby games are held. Lately there has been some times for the Heineken Cup, the highest quality European Cup competition in rugby union, used by French -Basque club Biarritz Olympique. The stadium was also used for the French rugby union championship in 2009 /10 as Aviron Bayonnais fought out its home games in this stadium. Other events in Estadio Anoeta are concerts. So already played here, among others, Pink Floyd, U2, Depeche Mode, The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen. Most the stadium but is also used for football.
