Anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery
Abnormal origin of the coronary artery from the pulmonary artery
The Bland- White- Garland syndrome (in the international trade language also Anomalous Left Coronary Artery From the Pulmonary Artery, ALCAPA ) refers to a congenital origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery. People with this malformation often develop early in life myocardial ischemia and heart failure. The direction of flow of the blood is due to the pressure conditions of the right coronary artery collateral vessels on the left coronary artery, and through this into the pulmonary artery. The only curative treatment is surgical correction.
The syndrome is according to the American cardiologist Edward Franklin Bland (1901-1992), Joseph Garland (1893-1973) and Paul Dudley White (1886-1973) named.
