Anopheles claviger is a type of malaria mosquitoes ( Anopheles ) are provided to the today Anopheles villosus, grisescens, turkestani, amaurus, habibi, Missiroli and pollutus as synonyms.

It comes in Europe to southern Scandinavia, North Africa and much of Asia. Anopheles claviger is distributed throughout Germany and reached the Black Forest itself an altitude of 1000 meters.

The species is mainly found in forests and swamps, especially at dusk active. For egg laying Anopheles claviger preferably in Germany cold, deep water with a shady border plantings. In warmer countries, the larvae are found in wells and cisterns. Anopheles claviger overwinters as a larva, the mosquitoes of the new generation already released in April. Usually develop two generations per year.

In Central and Northern Europe, this type did not play a role as a malaria vector, while it was an important transmitter in southern countries.
