Anotylus tetracarinatus, also Oxytelus t. is a beetle of the family of rove beetles ( Staphylinidae ). The species is in Central Europe, the most common species of the genus and probably the whole family.
Features
The beetles reach a body length of 1.7 to 2.1 millimeters and have a dark body color. The rails ( tibiae ) of the front legs are not externally sinuate at the top. The abdomen of the male has no tubercles.
Occurrence and life
The species occurs in the Palearctic and in North America. In Northern Europe, especially in the center and south of the species is less common in central and southern Europe it is often encountered anywhere up very often. The animals are found in a wide variety of decaying materials as ubiquitous. Often the Imagines in spring or early summer swarm in large numbers in the afternoon or evening of warm days.
