Ansfrid of Friuli

Ansfrit (also Ansfrid ) was around 694 the dux ( duke ) of the Lombard Duchy of Friuli.

Life

First was Ansfrit comes or Gastalde the castrum ( fort ) Reunia ( Ragogna ). To 694 he used the absence of the dux Rodoald of Friuli to usurp for its office. Rodoald fled across Istria and Ravenna to Ticinum (Pavia ) to King Cunincpert. Ansfrit would also gain the kingdom and marched with his army to Verona. There he was defeated, captured and eventually taken to Ticinum before King Cunincpert. He was blinded and exiled. Cunincpert awarded the Dukat no more, but appointed Rodoalds brother Ado for loci Servator ( governor ).
