Anson County, North Carolina

Anson County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wadesboro, which was named after Colonel Thomas Wade.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-west of North Carolina, on the south by South Carolina and has an area of ​​1391 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Stanly County, Richmond County and Union County.

Anson County is divided into eight townships: Ansonville, Burnsville, Gulledge, Lanesboro, Lilesville, Morven, Wadesboro and White Store.

History

Anson County was formed in 1750 from parts of Bladen County. It was named after George Anson, 1st Baron Anson, a British admiral and Chief of the Admiralty, explorers, and defender of the coasts of North Carolina from pirates.
