AN/SPS-67

The AN/SPS-67 is a ship -based surface search radar medium-range. It was initially manufactured by Norden Systems, to Northrop Grumman took over the production.

Development

The SPS -67 was developed as a replacement for the now obsolete AN/SPS-10. Among the advantages of the new radar include improved ECCM capabilities, among other things, low-flying aircraft recognition and higher reliability. These differences mainly result from the fact that, in the PLC 67 modern digital components are used in contrast to the analog sections of the PLC 10, but it should be noted that the Giterantenne was also used in the PLC 67. The system was introduced in the U.S. Navy in 1977.

Description

Primary, the SPS -67 for navigation and detection of surface targets is designed, it can, however, also low-flying targets such as anti-ship missiles and aircraft are recorded. To meet these diverse needs, the radar has a variety of operating modes. In addition, emphasis was placed on a reliable electronics, so you mainly used digital components which are easy to replace and have a self-diagnostic function. To hide the clutter caused by waves and interference, additional computer systems have been developed that are specialized for this task. The radar also has an integrated IFF transmitter.

Variants

  • AN/SPS-67 ( V) 1: The basic version.
  • AN/SPS-67 (V ) 2: This variant is identical to the previous one, the antenna was replaced by a more modern and more compact model.
  • AN/SPS-67 (V ) 3: Since 2000, this new version is available. The radar now has a digital MTI mode and an improved clutter suppression and automatic target acquisition and tracking. Moreover, the system can now pass target data to the Aegis combat system, with more than 128 targets can be tracked.
