Ant (Atoll)

, Called Ant And also Ahnd or, is a small atoll in the Pacific Ocean about 10 km south-west of Western Riffkranzes the Micronesian island of Pohnpei. Ant together with Pohnpei and the northern Pakin Atoll, the group of Senjawin Islands.

Geography

The almost rectangular atoll is 11 km long and up to 9 km wide. 13 small, but mostly overgrown Motus can be found on the narrow southern and eastern fringing reef and at a single location in the northwest of the atoll ( Wolauna Iceland ). For the deep lagoon, there is a passage in the southeast ( Tauenai Channel).

One of the more " major " land masses of Ant Atoll include the Aru islands Nikalap in the Southeast ( 46.6 hectares), Pamuk in the southwest ( 60.1 hectares) and Patya in the East ( 18.6 hectares), the combined two-thirds unite the land area of the atoll up. The uninhabited atoll is privately owned.

The total area of the atoll is 99 km ². The lagoon is up to 67 meters deep.

In the southeast of the atoll, the 90 -meter-wide and at the shallowest point 15.2 m deep Tauenai passage leads into the lagoon.

The atoll is uninhabited. 1986 was reported by a family who lived on the main island Nikelap Aru and copra produced for sale.

Management

The atoll is traditionally part of the community Kiti based in the southwest of the island of Pohnpei.
