Antanas Janauskas

Antanas Janauskas (* 1937 in Panevėžys) is a Lithuanian animator and film director.

After he had completed the 1965 School of Applied Arts in Telšiai, he began his work in Lietuvos kino studija. He became interested in animation, the Lietuvos kino studija produced at that time, however, no cartoons. 1967 Janauskas began his first animated film mergaite ir Velnias, which remained unfinished.

His four-minute animated film Iniciatyva 1970 was the first (full ) animation film, shot in Lietuvos kino studija. This film, a parable about totalitarianism arose because of the events of the Prague Spring. In 1986 he released his film Antspaudas, the Janauskas had realized with Mosfilm. While he was still working largely unprofessional before he turns professional methods since Antspaudas.

In 1991, after Lithuania's independence, he founded the animation studio AJ. Since then, his films are shown increasingly at international film festivals.
