The Great Wall Station is the first research station of the People's Republic of China in Antarctica and was opened on 20 February 1985. It is located on King George Iceland, which is one of the South Shetland Islands and is 960 km from Cape Horn removed and 130 km north of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The station was built on a stable ice-free rock surface, about ten feet above sea level. In the summer here keep mostly up to 40 persons on, in winter, the average population amounts to 14

The station consists of a total of ten buildings with a total surface area of 2643 m². In addition to residential buildings and buildings used for scientific researches there are, inter alia, recreational and sports facilities, an office building, a building for the power supply and one for communications equipment.

Power is obtained from three generators. The drinking water is obtained from a lake of snow. Inventories and material acquires the station via aircraft landing on the runway of 2.5 km from the Chilean Presidente Eduardo - free basis, and by ship. The ships are docked twice per season on a 2 km from the anchor point.

Nearest port is Punta Arenas in about 1000 km away.
