Brown White Ameisenvogel ( Gymnopithys leucaspis )

The Antbirds ( Thamnophilidae ) are a species-rich and form rich family in the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ). There is a close relationship to the Ameisenpittas or ants chokes from the family ( Formicariidae ).

Spreads are the small to medium sized Antbirds exclusively in the tropical and subtropical forests in Central and South America. The wings are rounded in most species and short. The flying skills are not well developed. Their plumage is usually colored unimpressive. In females, predominantly red-brown, with the males gray to black. On the ground, they are looking for insects hopping. The name derives from the custom was to follow the trains of the army ants, and to destroy the startled insects, spiders or small reptiles and snakes. Of the ants feed on only a few species.
