Ante Covic (2007)

Ante Covic ( original spelling of the surname: Covic [ tʃɔ ʋitɕ ː ] ) ( born June 13, 1975 in Sydney ) is an Australian football goalkeeper of Croatian descent.

Growing up is Ante Covic in Hurstville in southern Sydney. From 1997 he was for two years at the Australian first division Marconi Fairfield Stallions in the gate, before he moved to Europe and played in Greece for PAOK Thessaloniki and Kavala. About the Croatian first division side Dinamo Zagreb, he came to the club Hammarby IF in Sweden, where he was from 2002 to 2006 goalkeeper. From December 2006 to March 2009 he was at the Newcastle United Jets under contract.

On 18 March 2009 it was announced that Covic changes for three years after Sweden to IF Elfsborg. As the successor to Johan Wiland he was goalkeeper of the club with which he 2009 Table was third in the season. At the start of the following season even ordinary force, he lost for a place on the reference seventh match the space between the posts on the previous substitute Joakim Wulff, before the club with Jesper Christiansen undertook a new goalkeeper in July of this year. When he was injured, Covic returned in the summer back into the goal, but was later replaced by the fit-again Danes.

On 22 February 2006 he made his debut in the Australian national team in qualifying for the Asian Cup. As a third-choice goalkeeper, he belonged to the Australian squad for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany.

Ante Covic has in addition to the Australian and Croatian citizenship.
