Antero Kivelä

Antero Kivelä ( born December 26, 1955 in Pori ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender and coach, who played in the SM- liiga, among other things Ässät Pori in its active period 1972 to 1994. After his career as a professional athlete, he was a local politician.

Career

Antero Kivelä began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Ässät Pori, for the first team he 1972-1975 from 1975 until 1989, first in the SM- sarja and then its successor competition, the SM- liiga, active. The greatest success of the goalkeeper with Ässät Pori was winning the Finnish Championship title in the 1977 / 78th On winning the title he had great content and was named the best goalkeeper in the league with the Urpo - Ylönen trophy. Through the champion himself Ässät qualified for the European Cup by Kivelä led his team in the season 1978/79 to third place. In the SM- liiga of the national team was within five years with his team three time runner-up (1979, 1980 and 1984). In the season 1984/85 the Olympians was from 1980 a total of six times as Players out on loan for Jokipojat in the second-class I divisioona between the posts.

From 1992 to 1994 Kivelä served as head coach for the second division JHT Kalajoki. In the season 1993/94 he also returned once for a game back on the ice before he finally ended his career at the age of 38 years. Since 2005 Kivelä sits on the Left Alliance in the city council of his hometown of Pori. Kivelä is also the president of the women's soccer club Nice Futis Pori.

Internationally

For Kivelä Finland took part in the junior level only at the U19 European Junior Championships in 1974. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1978 and 1979, and at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
