Anthering is a rural municipality in the northern part of the Austrian province of Salzburg with 3632 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). It is located 9 km north of the city of Salzburg in Salzburg-Umgebung.

Geography

The municipality has an area of 25.2 Anthering km ² and is located north of the Salzburg basin in the flysch zone, nestled between the Haunsberg in the north ( with the municipal boundary to Nußdorf am Haunsberg ) and the Hochgitzen in the South ( in the village of Bergheim ). In the West, the Salzach forms the municipal boundary and at the same time the state border to Bavaria; east of Salzburg, the municipal area of ​​the small town of Neumarkt lies on the Wallersee. Anthering is part of the judicial district of Oberdorf.

History

The area of present-day Anthering was already inhabited during the Roman period of about shortly before the birth of Christ to 500, which is confirmed finds of objects from that period.

The current settlement is a Baiuvarii founded in the 6th century. The name Anthering goes back to the person names Antari (or Anthari ) and designated with the suffix - ing originally the home of a person of that name and his family. The place is supposed to be originally mentioned in the Notitia Arnonis 788; but you went from a first document of 790 and celebrated the 1,200 th anniversary of the community consequently only in the year 1990.

During the Napoleonic Wars in 1800, shortly after Napoleon's army moved through the area of Salzburg, where the commander is said to have also stayed.

Today Anthering is characterized as a rural community from the village character with a large number of small settlements. It has the usual for such a place infrastructure and social structure ( primary school, community facilities, volunteer fire department, band, etc.).

Traffic

Anthering has a station on the railway line Salzburg - Lamprechtshausen, which is integrated into the S-Bahn Salzburg. Anthering is every half hour from the city of Salzburg, sometimes every fifteen minutes reachable.

The municipality is situated on the Lamprechtshausener road (B 156).
