Anthonis van Obbergen

Anton van Obberghen (also van van Opberghen ) (* 1543 in Mechelen, † 1611) was a Flemish Mannerist architect.

He began his career in Antwerp, where he worked at the construction of urban fortifications. In 1575 he came to Denmark in 1577 as a royal court architect and led the reconstruction of the castle Kronborg in Elsinore. In 1586 he came to Gdansk, where he was in 1592, in 1594 was appointed master builder of fortifications for urban builders. He has created significant works of the late Renaissance in Gdansk.

He participated in the establishment of the Wisłoujście Fortress and Castle in Kuestrin as well as the flow control of the Vistula. In Gdansk, he also built the St. Gertrude's Bastion, the Peinkammertor, the great arsenal and probably also the Old City Hall. He is also attributed to the establishment of the Altstädtischer Town Hall in Toruń 1602-1605.
