Anthony Carmona

Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ( born March 7, 1953 in Palo Seco, Trinidad ) is a Trinidad - tobagischer lawyer and politician. Since 2013 he is the fifth president and thus Head of State in his home country, he previously worked as a judge of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago and the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Life

Anthony Carmona was born on the south coast of Trinidad, the eldest of six children of Mr and Mrs Stephen Dennis and Barbara Carmona. After visiting the Presentation College in San Fernando, he studied 1973-1983 at the University of the West Indies and the Hugh Wooding Law School in. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Laws.

First, Carmona worked as a prosecutor in Trinidad and Tobago from 2001 to 2004 at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Subsequently, he was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago. In December 2011, he was elected with 72 of 104 votes for judge of the International Criminal Court. The Office, he took up in February 2012.

Anthony Carmona resigned in February 2013 to succeed George Maxwell Richards as president of Trinidad and Tobago. Previously, the non-party Carmona was proposed by the ruling party United National Congress as a successor to the outgoing President. After even the opposition People's National Movement had spoken to him, he was determined by the Electoral College of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the president.
