Anthony Edwards (rower)

Anthony John Edwards ( born December 22, 1972 in Ballarat ) is an Australian lightweight rowers.

Career

Edwards in 1993 for the first time at World Rowing Championships and took part with the Australian lightweight quadruple sculls seventh. After a fifth place in the quadruple sculls in 1994 Edwards won in 1995 with a bronze medal in lightweight double sculls his first medal. With the Olympic debut of lightweight rowing, he won a bronze medal in 1996 also. After a fifth place in the double sculls 1997 he moved before the 1998 season in the lightweight coxless four and also won in this boat class World Championship bronze. After World Championship silver in 1999, the boat also won silver at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

After a pause, in 2001 he played in the 2002 lightweight one and finished at the World Championships in fifth place in 2003 he was tenth. For the Olympic Games in 2004, he returned to the quad and won his second Olympic silver medal. Over the next two years, Edwards took neither the World Cup still at world championships, in 2007, he returned in four and was seventh at the 2007 World Championships and ninth at the Olympic Games 2008. In 2010, the Australian foursome with a new cast to build on past successes and won silver at the World Championships in New Zealand, in 2011 won Edwards at the age of 38 years, his first world title. In the finals of the Olympic Regatta in 2012, the Australian lightweight four finished fourth.

The 1.83 m wide Edwards rowed for the Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club and is now at the New Norfolk Rowing Club. He lives in Hobart and works as an agent for the development of rowing in Tasmania.
