Anthony I, Count of Oldenburg

Count Anton I. von Oldenburg and Delmenhorst (* 1505, † January 22, 1573 in Oldenburg) out of the house of Oldenburg was sovereign and Count von Oldenburg and Delmenhorst within the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. His parents were Johann Graf von Oldenburg V. (* 1460, † 1525) and Anna of Anhalt- Zerbst.

Life

Anton I was born as the youngest son of Count John V.. He lay in long-standing dispute with his brothers Johann Georg Christoph and the autocracy in the county of Oldenburg. Since 1529 he was regent of the County of Oldenburg. In 1531 he was inspired by Charles V with the County of Oldenburg Delmenhorst borrow. 1547 he conquered in war Schmalkaldic back 1482 lost to Munster castle and lordship Delmenhorst, claiming them. He ran the upgrade of the country by developing the fortifications. The means to do so, he took from the canceled during the Reformation church property. Due to the retracted Hospitallers goods, there was a long-standing process he eventually won. On January 1, 1537, he married in Oldenburg Duchess Sophie of Saxe- Lauenburg († October 7, 1571 in Oevelgönne ), daughter of Duke Magnus I of Saxe- Lauenburg - Ratzeburg and Catherine of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel. They had the following children:
