For his film Line Describing a Cone, who is still regarded as one of his key works, he received in 1975 at the 5th International Experimental Film Competition in Knokke Marie - Josi - price. His experimental films are regarded as contributions to the Expanded Cinema ( an expanded understanding of film ) that emerged in the 1970s, as well as "solid light films" (such as: films of pure light ). They are assigned to continue a new " geometric " cinema.

Anthony McCall's films and installations that make use of cinematic means, deal primarily with questions that address with space, form and time. So he uses, for example, computer-controlled light beams of a beamer, with those in the dark space between the projector and screen designed three-dimensional shapes and are almost plastically by fog insert. In such cases, the audience is different than the movies included the fact that they can move in the projection space ( and should). Other effects, generated by the use of multiple projectors (Long film for Four Projectors, six hours, 1974).

McCall moved in 1973 to New York and continued his work continues on the "Solid ligtht films" and other variations of his work Line Describing a Cone. In 1977 he participated in Documenta 6 in Kassel. Towards the end of 1970 he retired as a practicing artist back. According finally over twenty years McCall once again appeared on the art market and continued its development in the 1970s practice now uses but instead of analog film electronic media such as computers with CAD software and a projector.
