Anthony Phillips

Edwin Anthony Phillips ( born December 23, 1951 in Putney, South London, England ) is a British musician. He is best known as a founding member and guitarist of the group Genesis, which he left in 1970 after two albums; his last concert with Genesis took place on 18 July 1970 at the King's Arms in Haywards Heath instead.

In the seventies, he studied classical music, and wrote the way with Mike Rutherford the music for his first solo album, which after several years of sporadic work finally appeared in 1977. The album, " The Geese and the Ghost" titled, is a blend of gentle, lyrical ballads and longer compositions that approach to classical structures. The publication coincided with the advent of punk, and has sold more moderate, probably mainly on Genesis fans, as well as Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins can be heard on the album.

The next two albums, " Wise After The Event" ( 1978) and " Sides" (1979 ), tried with relatively " normal" rock music to find a wider audience (especially on the advice and gentle pressure from the record company ), but met with the most fans with little enthusiasm.

At the same time appeared the first episode of " Private Parts & Pieces " series, which continues today. There are typically non-commercial, personal audio recordings to find, often guitar solos, but also synthesizer music and songs. Also, one or the other unreleased Genesis song was from the old days as the way to vinyl.

In addition, almost published annually albums by Philips, which are usually only perceived by fans. The palette ranges from instrumental guitar or piano music ( Twelve ) to neo-romantic orchestral music ( Tarka, Slow Dance ) and electronic music (1984).
