Anthony Shadid

Anthony Shadid ( born September 26, 1968 in Oklahoma City, † February 16, 2012 in Syria ) was an American journalist.

Life

Shadid was born in 1968 as son of a libanesischstämmigen family in Oklahoma City. He studied at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

In 1995, the career of Shadid began at the Associated Press news agency in Cairo; they took him to various periods with media in the U.S. to Baghdad, where he was a correspondent for the Washington Post. Since 2009 he worked for the New York Times in Baghdad and Beirut. In the years 2004 and 2010 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting.

Shadid died of an asthma attack during his work in Syria. He was married and had two children from two marriages.
