Anthony Veiller

Anthony Veiller ( born June 23, 1903 in New York City, New York, USA, † June 27, 1965 in Hollywood, California ) was an American screenwriter, film producer and film director.

Biography

Anthony Veiller, the son of actress Margaret Wycherly and film director Bayard Veiller, grew up in Ohio, where he was taught at Antioch College.

After a first experience as director of a theater and as a publicist, Veiller started from 1932 with the writing of screenplays. In 1941 he was a producer at Paramount Pictures and was responsible for producing and commenting on propaganda films the U.S. Army, where open to the fight against Hitler's Germany was called in the next four years of the war.

1948 Veiller wrote the screenplay for Frank Capra's political satire The best man. In 1949 he joined the staff of Warner Brothers, and was responsible for exclusive screenplays since 1952. So he was in 1964 on the side of John Huston author of the film The Night of the Iguana, and had in 1959 written a part of the script for King Vidor's Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.

His services were rewarded with two Oscar nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, further comprising two WGA Award nominations.

Anthony Veiller was married once. He married on 31 December 1933, its one year older, screenwriter Laura Kerr. From the marriage, which, until 1945, held twelve years a child went forth.

Anthony Veiller died four days after his 62nd birthday from cancer.
