Anthony Washington

Anthony Washington ( born January 16, 1966 in Glasgow, Montana ) is a former American discus thrower.

Washington won the 1991 discus throw at the Pan American Games. The following year he was at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in twelfth, and at the World Championships in 1993, he finished in eleventh place.

On May 22, 1996, he threw in Salinas with his personal best 71.14. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in the German Lars Riedel won highly superior with 69.40 meters in the fifth attempt. After the first trial Anthony Washington had led with 65.42 meters, but could not continue to increase and was surpassed by the two White Russians Vladimir Dubrowschtschik and Vasil Kapzjuch except by Riedel. Washington was fourth ahead of Virgilijus Alekna and Jürgen Schult.

Anthony won the 1999 Washington to 1991, 1993 and 1996, his fourth U.S. title. After 1991, he won for the second time at the Pan American Games. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville led after the fifth passage Jürgen Schult with 68.18 meters in front of Lars Riedel and Virgilijus Alekna. In the last passage Washington managed a throw of 69.08 meters, and it was surprising world champion.

At the 2000 Olympics Anthony Washington was once twelfth.

After graduating from Syracuse University, Anthony Washington worked during his sporting career as a graphic designer. At a height of 1.86 meters his competition weight was 109 kg.
