Anthony Zerbe

Anthony Jared Zerbe ( born May 20, 1936 in Long Beach, California) is an American actor.

Career

After his military service with the U.S. Navy Zerbe studied at the Drama School of Stella Adler in New York City.

Zerbe is since 1963 in front of the camera and is known especially through numerous appearances on television series in which he was often cast as a villain. Among his most famous film credits include his roles as an antagonist of Charlton Heston in the apocalyptic film The Omega Man (1971 ), as Admiral Dougherty in Star Trek: Insurrection (1998 ) and as a Councillor Harmann in the movies The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded (both 2003). For television, he played the 1986 Civil War general and later U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant in the series North and South. In 1976 he received an Emmy for his supporting role as a police lieutenant in the crime series Harry -O.

Anthony Zerbe appeared also in numerous plays. In 1990 he founded together with Josh Brolin Theatre Festival Reflections in Rochester, New York, dedicated to new plays and was its artistic director for five years.

Anthony Zerbe is married since 1962 with Arnette Jens, who has emerged as an actress and painter. They have a son and a daughter.
