Anthropology of media

The media anthropology is a very young and therefore not yet clearly to be defined, interdisciplinary area of research which is moved by some of its representatives in the proximity of media education or other media studies, however, understood by others as a new branch of cultural anthropology.

The media anthropology sets itself the task to reflect the changes of the man and of man in our image, in still increasingly shaped by mass media society and to accompany them with critical questions. The term medium is pursued through a broad historical perspective: from cave paintings on panel paintings and books to the audiovisual dissemination and storage devices in the form of television, radio and computer. Subject of media anthropology is therefore also the social function of the media and their cultural significance.
