Antigonish County, Nova Scotia

Antigonish County is a county located on the north coast of the eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Located on the Northumberland Strait had administrative unit 2011 19.589 inhabitants in an area of 1457.81 km ². The administrative headquarters is the place Antigonish, which is connected via the Nova Scotia Highway 104 to the rest of the traffic network.

History

When Sydney County was created in 1784 for the first time an administrative unit in this area whose boundaries have been established on December 16, 1785. 1822 was an increase through the incorporation of the townships of St. Mary, which also partly belonged to the Halifax County since its inception in 1818. A reduction was, however, in 1836 by the splitting off of Guysborough County.

Communities

In Antigonish County there is the Town of Antigonish. All other settlements are not automatically (incorporated villages ) and are co-managed by the Countyverwaltung under the name Municipality of the County of Antigonish.
