Antimony ( III ) iodide is an inorganic chemical compound of the antimony from the group of iodides.
Production and representation
Antimony ( III ) iodide can be obtained by the reaction of antimony with iodine in benzene, carbon disulfide, or tetrachloroethane.
It can be represented with boron triiodide also by the reaction of antimony (III ) chloride.
Properties
Antimony (III ) iodide is a ruby-red solid, which decomposes in water and air to Antimonoxidiodid SBOI. Its aqueous solution is acidic. With Alkaliiodiden it forms complex salts. It has a crystal structure of the bismuth ( III ) iodide type. The connection is also available in a yellow- green monoclinic modification.
Use
Antimony ( III) iodide, is used in medicine.
