Antiochus XI Epiphanes

Antiochus XI. Epiphanes or Philadelphus (c. 115 or 113 BC, † 92 BC ), son of Antiochus VIII Grypus from his first marriage with Tryphaena and twin brother of Philip I., was next to his twin brother of 95-92 v. Chr king of the Seleucids.

Although Seleucus VI. , The older brother of Antiochus XI and Philip I, in the year 95 BCE was defeated in the struggle for the throne against Antiochus X. Eusebes and was killed later, his two younger brothers jointly declared a kingdom of the Seleucids. They sought revenge and besieged Antioch. After the defeat in the Battle of the Orontes against Antiochus X. had Antiochus XI. escape and drowned in the river, when he tried to cross him on his horse.

The brothers shaped a common coin, which showed a Zeus - representation on the one hand, their two heads, on the other.
