Antipasto

Antipasto (Italian for before the meal, plural antipasti ) is the Italian name for an appetizer. The antipasti of Italian cuisine consist of small dishes as a prelude to a multi-course meals. Typical are air-dried meats such as ham or salami, accompanied by fried, pickled in olive oil vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms and fresh vegetables or fruit, marinated seafood and spicy occupied, toasted bread slices.

In Italian restaurants, it is customary to present prepared antipasti in a display case, from which the guest can be put together a selection to taste.
