Einfarblaufsittich ( Cyanoramphus unicolor)

The Einfarblaufsittich ( Cyanoramphus unicolor) is a species of parrot or Einfarbsittich from the kind of Kakarikis or run parakeets ( Cyanoramphus ).

Description

This Sittichart reached a size of 29 cm for the hens and up to 32 cm at the taps. It weighs up to 136 grams. He is the largest species in the genus of the running parakeets. The plumage is mostly green. The chest, the abdomen and under tail-coverts are yellow-green. The elytra and the wide spring insides are purple - blue. The beak has a bright silver-gray tint and has a black tip. The head is green. The eyes are orange and the feet are gray. His reputation consists of a high bandwidth of rattling sounds. The pitch is lower than other running parakeet species.

Habitat and Distribution

The Einfarblaufsittich is endemic to the Antipodes Islands, a small island group southeast of New Zealand. He keeps on with fondness in areas with Poa lite pink, a Rispengrasart that grows mainly on coastal slopes.

Way of life

Its food consists of the leaves of the Tussockgrases as well as sedges, flowers and berries; apparently he did not disdain carrion, because one has seen him on dead penguin bodies. Five to six eggs are laid in captivity, only one to three cubs are usually in the wild but raised. These parakeets are over ten years old.

Einfarblaufsittich and human

The Einfarblaufsittich is not seriously endangered today. 1907 some specimens were taken to Kapiti Iceland, where they survived for 20 years. He usually is on the main island of the Antipodes, Antipodes Iceland (20 km ² ) and Bollons Iceland (0.5 km ²) to be found. More rarely he is on the Leeward Islands ( 0.1 km ²), Inner Windward ( 0.1 km ²) and Archway ( 0.1 km ²). Since 1978, the stock is stable at 2,000 to 3,000 copies. Due to the small distribution area but a serious threat could be the accidental importation of rats, weasels and mice and therefore it was classified by the IUCN as endangered ( vulnerable ). He is in Appendix II of the CITES Convention. The Einfarblaufsittich is a popular aviary bird to New Zealand, where he also breeds good. In Europe, however, he was rarely implemented and is probably no longer held here today.
