Because Dioscorus had very good knowledge of Greek and customs in Ostrom knew better than others, he was 519 the leading negotiator in the negotiations to end the schism of Constantinople Akakianischen Opel. When Pope Felix III. ( IV ) 530 died, he was the leading candidate to replace him.

In fact, he was elected by the majority of the clergy on September 22, 530 to the Pope; an anti- Byzantine minority appointed but at the same time recommended by Felix Goths Boniface II as the successor of the deceased. Only the early death of Dioscorus (mid-October 530) was Pope Boniface as a single left and ended the schism.

Especially the example of Dioscorus can clarify " anti-pope " the problem of the term: he was elected by the majority of the church. Only the fact that Boniface forced all clerics in December 530, to condemn their " error " to admit and Dioscorus in retrospect, the latter then brought the title " anti-pope " a.
