Antipsara

The Greek island Andipsara (Greek Αντίψαρα (n. pl. ) ) Is located about 3 km west of the larger neighboring island of Psara to the community it belongs to. Because of the steep coast, the island is inaccessible from the north and west side. On the island of the typical plants of Phrygana and maquis, as well as a few trees grow. In addition, some wild goats live on Psara. The highest elevation of the island reaches a height of 150 m.

The settlement in ancient Greek and Roman times could be detected. During Ottoman times, the island served as a port. Today, in the summer months swimming trips of Psara offered. The small church of Agios Ioannis ( Άγιος Ιωάννης ) on the east side is visited in August of pilgrims.

Because of the unique fauna Andipsara was recorded in 2000 program under the 196 most important bird sanctuaries of Greece ( IBAG ) in the Natura. The Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis ) is native to the island. As a breeding area is Psara of Eleonora's falcon (Falco eleonorae ), Cory's shearwater ( Calonectris diomedea ) and visited the Mediterranean shearwater ( Puffinus yelkouan ) annually.
