Antitheism

Anti-theism (also called " strong atheism " period) is the philosophical attitude that provides support against any form of theism, in the broadest sense of belief in one God is rejected as not useful, and classified religion as harmful and dangerous in the strict sense. Having said that, we mean by atheism in general merely the absence of belief in gods. When weak atheism no assumptions about provability of existence or non- existence of gods or the usefulness of a belief in God to be made (see Agnosticism ).

Definition

Theism is based on the existence of one or more divine beings, the anti-theism denies this assumption. It is directed against theistic worldviews, not against their supporters.

The belief of many people today (not as Antitheisten ) describe themselves as atheists, usually share the same thoughts, which also constitute the basic statements of anti-theism. However, this attitude can be the fundamental difference in mind that the lack of belief in the existence of God ( atheism ) philosophically and psychologically is something completely different from the belief that such a belief is irrational or harmful ( anti-theism ).

Atheist writers and orators of the present such as Richard Dawkins seem to define the term " anti-theism " for themselves so that they not only deny to be all theisms true, but also deny them the usefulness of completely or at least mostly. This happens especially in contrast to atheists who do not believe in the existence of God, but often (for example, for the morals and ethics of a society ) see a benefit in religiosity. Thus, about Christopher Hitchens out that belief in the existence of an omnipotent and omniscient being, the demand worship for all eternity, is to be regarded as in any way desirable, as this would correspond to the life in a totalitarian surveillance state.

Criticism of the concept

Critics say that " anti-theism " a superfluous word creation is because, in their view, there was no significant difference to atheism, since atheism in itself is already anti- theistic. By this definition, anti-theism is simply atheism, "weak " atheism agnosticism, however.
