Antitoxin

An anti- toxin (from the ancient Greek preposition αντί anti " against " and the Latin toxicum " ( arrow ) poison" ) is an antidote that makes harmless already present in the body toxins. Usually it is obtained from the serum of convalescents or large laboratory animals, such as horses and cattle. Chemically, it is neutralizing antibodies from the production of B- lymphocytes. The principle of the serum treatment has been proven in infectious diseases with strong toxin agents such as tetanus, botulism and diphtheria as well as intoxication with snake venom.
