Antoine Coysevox

Antoine Coysevox, also Coyzevox (* September 29, 1640 in Lyon, † October 10th 1720 in Paris) was a French sculptor.

Coysevox went with 17 years to Paris, where he enjoyed the instruction of the sculptor Louis Lerambert, and went in 1667 to Saverne, where he decorated the palace of Cardinal William Egon of Fürstenberg with paintings.

Since 1677 he carried out many decorative works for the Palace of Versailles and unfolded until his death in a very extensive activity. His main works are: the mausoleum of Jean -Baptiste Colbert in the parish church St- Eustache de Paris, the tomb of the painter Charles Lebrun in St. Roche, the Jules Mazarin, etc. in the Louvre, many statues in the Tuileries Gardens

Coysevox was one of the most distinguished sculptors of his time, of course, from the pompous hyped essence the same could not remain free, however, a certain grandeur, knew by name to preserve in his major work, the tomb of Mazarin. He was also the teacher of his nephew Nicolas and Guillaume Coustou and Guillaume Hulot.
