Antoine Dénériaz

Antoine Dénériaz ( born March 6, 1976 in Bonneville ) is a French former alpine skier.

Biography

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Dénériaz won the gold medal in the downhill on favorites Michael Walchshofer and Bruno Kernen.

His debut in the ski world cup he gave on 15 December 1996 at Val d'Isere with the court 34. Throughout his career, he celebrated three World Cup victories in downhill skiing. The 1.89 m wide and 100 -kg skier had to cope with a number of injuries ( including a torn ACL in January 2005). He was the World Cup circuit commonly known as " miracle glider ". The Olympic downhill won Dénériaz with a torn medial collateral ligament. Since a heavy fall at the World Cup finals in Åre in March 2006 Dénériaz had always struggled with his form. On 5 December 2007 the three-time French champion announced his retirement from active competition.

Dénériaz is married to the former Austro- New Zealand alpine skier Claudia Riegler. In November 2009, the first son of the couple was born. Dénériaz is involved in the ski manufacturer zai AG.
