Antoine Mazairac

Antonius Hendrikus " Antoine" Mazairac ( born May 24, 1901 in Roosendaal, † September 1, 1966 in Dortmund ) was a Dutch racing driver and pilot - world champion of 1929.

Antoine Mazairac found only with 16 years of cycling when he was still watching as the students race on the velodrome " Raayberg " in Bergen op Zoom. In 1921 he became Dutch champion flyer on the track for the first time. He could repeat this success as an amateur five times. International Mazairac was twice vice-champion and once World Cup bronze medalist. He also won the silver medal in the 1,000 m at the Olympic Summer Games in 1928 in Amsterdam.

In 1929 Mazairac crashed so hard that he wanted to give up the sport of cycling. He started then but for one last time at the World Championships and was able to win the title.

After finishing his career Mazairac began an apprenticeship in a garage operation Antwerp, where he covered the distance of 40 kilometers from Bergen op Zoom out daily by bike. He then started his own business in his home town.

In a " gentleman's race " in Dortmund Mazairac crashed at the age of 65 years hard and died from the effects.
