Anton Deimel

Anton Deimel ( born December 5, 1865 in Olpe, † August 7, 1954 in Rome ) was a German orientalist, Jesuit and theologian.

Life

Deimel is considered one of the founders of Sumerology, which deals with the language, history, literature, religion and mythology and culture of the Mesopotamian people of the Sumerians. It dealt mainly with economic texts of the third millennium before Christ.

Anton Deimel had studied in London at Johann Strassmaier and (all or the majority ) of rhinestone Meier's notebooks transferred with copies of many ancient Near Eastern texts to Rome.

His most important work was begun in 1925 Sumerian Lexicon.
