Anton Friedrich Hohl

Anton Friedrich Hohl ( born November 17 1789 in Lobenstein; † January 23, 1862 ) was a German professor of obstetrics.

Life

Anton Friedrich hollow, was born as the tenth child of the mayor of Praise Stone, David Friedrich Hohl. He attended six years the Prince's School Schulpforta and put there the school leaving examination. Then hollow took his parents' wishes to study law at the University of Leipzig. After graduating, he settled down in 1813 in his hometown as a lawyer. 1815 his father died and whose offices were transferred to the son, who was elected at the same time an officer of the civil rifle battalion. In this function, the hollow was admitted to the court of the von Reuss- Lobenstein. 1818 hollow appeared as Lieutenant and Master of the Horse in the service of Prince Henry LIV. (1767-1824), with this and his wife Franziska zu Reuss- Koestritz (1788-1843) joined hollow an amicable relationship. The prince died on May 7, 1824, his widow left at the behest of Henry the clerk the necessary financial resources to complete a long aspired to study medicine.

Even in 1824 took hollow in Hall graduated from the United Friedrich University on admission he was in the professor of obstetrics Wilhelm Hermann Niemeyer ( 1788-1840 ). On April 8, 1827 he received his doctorate with the thesis De Microcephalia to the doctor of medicine. Supported by Johann Friedrich Meckel (1781-1833), hollow dedicated in this document including the investigation of a malformed girl from the Meckel's collection. Hohls description of the skeleton indicates a Klippel -Feil syndrome, which hollow could be the first to describe the syndrome.

In 1829 he graduated from the State Examination and the following year he completed his habilitation with the treatise De Aneurysmatis, eorum medendi manuumque opera sanandi ratione. He turned to the obstetrics and was appointed in 1832 as an associate and in 1834 a full professor in this subject. In the following two decades hollow developed a lively publishing activity and wrote several textbooks. In 1840 he took over as successor Niemeyer, in which he had been working for several years as an assistant, head of the Obstetric Clinic. He died on January 23, 1862 from the effects of pneumonia.

He was a member of the Corps Thuringia Leipzig ( 1811) and founder of the Corps Saxonia Leipzig. His son was the doctor Rudolf hollow.
