Anton Giulio Bragaglia

Anton Giulio Bragaglia ( born February 11, 1890 in Frosinone, † 15 July 1960 ) was an Italian artist of Futurism, which especially the fields of photography, film and stage devoted himself.

Life

Bragaglia was born the son of Francesco Bragaglia, one of the pioneers of the Italian cinema, and was from the age of 16 as an assistant director at the Cines, his father's company, active. Besides, he devoted himself to photographic experiments, the movements should represent on an image. Based on the futuristic manifestos, he developed a theory of futuristic photography, which he published under the title La Fotodinamica. But neither this theory nor with his book Fotodinamismo Futurista or with his many lectures he could convince the majority of the Milan Futurists of the artistic aspects of his work. Especially Umberto Boccioni said the photograph, from any aesthetic qualities, which Anton Giulio and his brother Arturo Bragalia was denied admission into the inner circle of the Futurists, although they both enjoyed the support of Marinetti and Balla.

In 1916 Bragaglia founded the film production company Novissima and realized three films ( Stage Enrico Prampolini ). Of these films ( Perfido Incanto, Il mio cadavere and Thais ) is only the latter, the only futuristic film obtained.

1918 founded Bragaglia in Rome, Casa d' Arte Bragaglia, by the way 1922 is also a small theater. In 1931 he turned again a movie ( Vele amminate ), but then turned back to theater work and conducted now 1937 to 1943, the Teatro delle Arti. From 1945 he was active as a UNESCO representative of Italy in the theater, but also continued to lead theater director and was active as a stage designer, essayist and critic. Also two long documentaries at the beginning of the 1950s are on the list of his work.

His brother Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia was a famous film director.
