Anton Hofreiter

Anton " Toni" Hofreiter ( born February 2, 1970 in Munich) is a German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens ). Since 2005 he is member of the German Bundestag and there since 2011 Chairman of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development. Since October 2013 he is next to Katrin Göring -Eckardt Chairman of the Green parliamentary faction.

Life and career

After graduation in 1990 at the Asam -Gymnasium Munich Hofreiter began in 1991 to study biology at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich ( LMU), from which he graduated in 1997 as a biologist. In September 2003, he received his doctorate at the Institute of Systematic Botany, LMU Bomarea Dr. rer. nat. He was then to 2006 at the same institution working as a post-doctoral researcher. In addition, Hofreiter worked from 1998 to 2003 for the Bavarian Green Party member of parliament Susanna Tausendfreund and from 2003 to 2005 Mr Christian Magerl.

Party

Hofreiter 1986 as a student member of the Greens. From 1988 to 1995 he was speaker of the local branch Sauerlach and 1996-2006 Speaker of the Green District Association Munich -Land. Between 2001 and 2006 he also served as speaker of the country's work group ecology.

Member of Parliament

From 2002 to 2005 Hofreiter belonged to the council his residence Sauerlach. He is also a County Council since 2002 in the council of the district of Munich.

Since 2005 he is member of the German Bundestag and always - most recently in 2013 - was elected on the regional list Bavaria. His constituency is Munich -Land. In the sixteenth Bundestag from 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of his faction of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development. He is a founding member of the parliamentary group of free -flowing rivers.

On 8 June 2011 Hofreiter was unanimously elected as the successor of Winfried Hermann as Chairman of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development in the German Bundestag. Until his election as Committee Chairman, he was transport spokesman of the Alliance 90/The Greens.

After the general election 2013, Hofreiter applied for the chair of the parliamentary group of his party. On October 8, 2013, was chosen by 49 of the 61 green Bundestag deputies in this office, which he shares with the Co-Chairs Katrin Göring -Eckardt.

Memberships

Hofreiter is a member of the organic traffic Club VCD, the trade union Verdi, nature lovers, nature conservation covenant, Landesbund for bird protection and in the association for the protection of the mountains.
