Anton Joseph Hampel

Anton Joseph Hampel (* around 1710 in Prague, † March 30, 1771 in Dresden ) was a German horn player and composer.

Life

Anton Joseph Hampel came from Bohemia. His name is mentioned in the sources as Hampl, Hampla and limp. The information on his birth year vary 1700-1711. It was 1737 in the court orchestra at Dresden ( Saxon State Orchestra today ) employed as a second horn player. From 1757 to 1766 he played 1st horn and then switched back to the second position

Hampel was among other things a teacher of Giovanni Punto. His horn method and technique of the plug and Abdämpfens of tones on the horn had a decisive effect the playing technique of his time. He worked with the Dresden instrument maker Johann Werner, and his idea is to Werner have inserted a Inventionszug first time in the valveless natural horn. (see Horn ). From Hampel's compositions have only a few will get. Narrated are concertos for horn, etudes and chamber music with horn. His horn school was a few years later revised by Giovanni Punto and expanded. His brother Johann Adam Hampel also played viola in the Dresden court orchestra from in 1737. A Johann Michael Hampel ( 1732-1793 ), apparently Hampel's son, is from 1769 to May 1793 horn player (initially as a third horn, in 1772 as a second called Horn ) in Dresden
