Anton Stamitz

Thaddeus Anton Johann Nepomuk Stamitz (* November 1750 in Mannheim, † 1798 or 1809 probably in Paris) was a German violinist and composer of classical music.

Life

Anton Stamitz and his brother Carl received his first violin lessons from her father, Johann Stamitz. After his early death, the two brothers of Christian Cannabich were trained. Both were already at a young age violinist in the famous electoral Mannheim court orchestra.

With his brother Anton visited Paris in 1770 and settled there, from 1782 to 1789 he played in the royal chapel at Versailles and obtained the title of " ordinaire de la musique du roi ". He was the violin teacher of Rodolphe Kreutzer. This led on 25 May 1780 aged 13 years one of the violin concertos by Anton Stamitz successful in Concert spiritual on.

Since 1789, he was mentally ill, his last known appearance was in October 1789 in the former Hôtel des Cardinal Richelieu, where he gave a benefit concert for his own benefit.
