Anton G. von Wietersheim ( born June 10, 1951 in Windhoek ) is a Namibian politician and former Minister of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development.

Education and work

From Wietersheim grew up on the family farm grass at the Fish River in the municipality Kalkrand and attended the German Higher private school Windhoek. After graduation in 1970, he completed his military service in the South African military. Between 1972 and 1975 studied at the universities of Wietersheim in Cape Town and Stellenbosch and graduated with a Diploma of Agricultural Sciences (B. Agric. Admin.) from. From 1976 he worked as a farmer and pilot Safari in South West Africa and Botswana. During this time he held various offices in Farmer and hunting associations. Together with his then wife, Erika of Wietersheim - Falk, he founded in 1980 as one of the first farmers a school for the children of his black employees.

Since 1998 was the owner of Wietersheim Swakopmunder bookstore, which he gave to one of his sons in March 2011.

He he was also active as chairman of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry ) in Swakopmund.

Political career

Anton von Wietersheim 1985 belonged to the founders of the group "Namibia Peace plan 435 ". The group, which included predominantly white inhabitants of the country, came to Namibia's independence on the basis of a UN Security Council resolution No. 435, and held talks with the liberation movement SWAPO. 1989 of Wietersheim, who was considered a unifying figure for white Namibians for SWAPO member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia. After the independence of the country was of Wietersheim 1990-1995 Member of Parliament. In 1991 he was in 1992 appointed Vice-Minister of Economy Minister of Agriculture. Since 2010 part of Wietersheim again the Namibian Parliament on, now as a member of the opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP ).

Private

From Wietersheim is married to his second wife and five children.
