Antoni Edward Odyniec

Antoni Edward Odyniec ( born January 25, 1804 in Giejstuny; † January 15, 1885 in Warsaw) was a Polish poet, playwright and translator.

Odyniec began in 1820 Law at the University of Vilnius to study. There he met Adam Mickiewicz and joined under the influence of the Polish- patriotic Filareten - collar on. After him, the tsarist authorities had taken several months in prison, was born in 1824 be Pieśń Filaretov. He lived until 1829 in Warsaw, where he continued his studies and 1825-26 two volumes of poetry ( Poezje ) published.

1829-30 he undertook with Mickiewicz an educational trip through Europe, where he visited Germany, Switzerland and Italy, took part in the celebration of the 80th birthday of Goethe and Zygmunt Krasinski met. In 1831 he settled in Dresden. Here he worked on the translation of works of Walter Scott and Byron, worked as co-editor of the "Polish Classic Library " and wrote articles for the magazine " Przyjaciel ludu ".

1837 Odyniec returned to Vilna, where he cooperated with the " Gluck Mount Universal Encyclopedia ", wrote for the courier Wileński and the dramas Felicyta and Barbara Radziwiłłówna wrote. From 1866 he lived in Warsaw and wrote here for the Kurier Warszawski. During this time he published Listy z podróży (1867-1878) and Wspomnienia z przeszłości opowiadane Deotymie ( 1879-1883 ).
