Antoni Lange

Antoni Lange ( * 1861 or 1863 in Warsaw, † March 17, 1929 ) was a Polish poet, philosopher, writer and dramatist of the Young Poland period. He was representative of the decadent, Parnassian and protagonist of science fiction in Polish literature.

Life

Most sources give 1861 as his date of birth. Long attended the High School # 5 in Warsaw and then studied at the Faculty of Biology of Warsaw University, but was expelled for his 1880 participation in the radical, pro-Polish organizations of the university. At the time he published patriotic poems already under Pseudonymnamen: Napierski and Antoni Wrzesień. He then went to France where he studied at the University of Paris on. In 1890, he was from Paris literary director of the Warsaw magazine " Życie " and correspondent of " Przegląd Tygodniowy ", " pobudka " and " Glos ." In 1924 he founded the literary magazine " Astrea ". After his return to Poland he became a member of " Straż Piśmiennictwa Polskiego " ( predecessor organization to Polska Akademia Literatury ). In the 1920s he withdrew from social life, mostly published anonymously, and only very little.

Lange has never married and had no children, he died penniless on March 17, 1929 in Warsaw.
