Antoni Malczewski

Antoni Malczewski ( born June 3, 1793 in Warsaw, † May 2, 1826 ibid ) was a Polish poet.

Originally from a wealthy family Malczewski attended high school in Krzemieniec. He joined in 1811 the army of the Duchy of Warsaw, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. He then traveled through Western Europe. In 1818 he succeeded in the first ascent of the North Summit of the Aiguille du Midi in the Mont Blanc massif. The following year he learned the suspected his highly admired Lord Byron know.

After his return to Poland in 1825, he wrote his only known work, the poetry & Mary, which is now counted among the masterpieces of Polish Romanticism, in his lifetime, but was largely ignored. In addition to Seweryn Goszczyński Józef Bohdan Zaleski and Malczewski is counted for Ukrainian poetic school.
