Antonin Maronite Order

The Maronite Antonians (Latin: Ordo Antonianorum Maronitarum, religious symbol: OAM) is a non- monastic religious order in the Maronite Syriac Church. In the Orient called themselves since the 17th century, several Catholic religious orders as " Antonians ." Their model was the hermit Anthony the Great (ca. 251-350 ), so there was the Armenian Atonianer, Antonians Chaldean, Syrian Antonians, Ethiopian Antonians and the designated here Maronite Antonians. They were originally monastic, contemplative and turned into an active, not monastic orders with solemn vows.

History

Their origin dates back to August 15, 1700 as the day that founded the patriarch of the Maronite Church Gabriel II al Blouzani the monastic orders. The first members of the Order were recruited from the Lebanese Maronite Order, which was founded in 1695. They belong to one of the oldest Catholic religious orders.

Self-understanding

The monks live in community in prayer, apostolate and maintain the Christian charity. They practice all forms of ecumenism and inter -religious dialogue. The monks live in small residential and communities and work from there in pastoral care.

Organization

Office of the General Curia is Beirut, since 2004 dressed Abbot Boulos Tannouri the office of Superior General. With Simon Athallah the Order provides a Bishop for the Melkite Church ( Eparchy of Baalbek - Deir El -Ahmar ). The Congregation serves 30 municipalities and several individual projects in Lebanon. They are also active in Syria, Italy, France, Canada and Australia and act beyond the school and the university sector.
