Antonín Rükl

Antonín Rükl (* 1932 in Čáslav, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech astronomer, cartographer and nonfiction author.

Life

As a student he became interested in astronomy. In 1956 he graduated from the Technical University in Prague and then joined the staff in the astronomical department at the Prague Institute of Geodesy.

From 1960 he worked in the Prague Planetarium, was deputy head and then head of the institution. He was also chairman of the planetary section of the Czechoslovak Astronomical Union. From 1996 until his retirement in 1999, he was Vice President of the International Planetarium Directors Conference.

Rükl is the author of several books on astronomy. He gained great skills in the field of cartography and especially the Selenografie. His most famous work is the moon Atlas.

Rükl is married and has two children.
