Antonine Itinerary

The Antonine Itinerary ( complete: Itinerarium Antonini Augusti Provinciarum ) is a list of the main streets of the Roman Empire, which also indicates Roman settlements. The basic shape was probably at the beginning of the 3rd century AD ( referred to in the title is Antoninus Emperor Caracalla ), the handwritten handed version around the end of the century under Diocletian.

The Antonine Itinerary includes according to common opinion research 17 routes by the Roman Empire, come to those numerous side streets. The compilation is very heterogeneous in detail. It seems clear at least that all posted roads are to be understood as viae publicae. The Antonine Itinerary are due to numerous important details of many Roman settlement names, even if some information is inaccurate. In contrast to the tabula Peutingeriana the Antonine Itinerary contains no card-like representations.

Together with the street directory is handed a process called Antonine Itinerary Augusti maritimum directory of shipping routes.
